Latino businesses in Kent and Sussex Counties are joining forces to build the Delaware Alliance of Latino Entrepreneurs (¡DALE!), a community of Latino entrepreneurs. Be part of the movement!
In partnership with the Delaware Alliance for Latino Entrepreneurs (¡DALE!), we are
planning many special business events celebrating Latino businesses including a
Latino Business Awards Gala, a Latina Summit, and a Latino Mercado.
About La Plaza Delaware
La Plaza works to expand opportunity, build capacity, and create greater economic prosperity for Latino and other minority-owned businesses throughout Kent and Sussex counties. Through business training, coaching, workshops, events, and other resources, La Plaza helps entrepreneurs build the knowledge, connections, and confidence they need to start, strengthen, and grow their businesses.
Since 2021, La Plaza has served more than 300 Latino-owned businesses across Kent and Sussex counties while helping foster financial empowerment, develop emerging leaders, and strengthen the communities they call home.

About Southern Delaware’s Latino Community
Latinos are America’s fastest-growing population. In Sussex County, the Latino community has grown significantly over the past 10 years, from 20,542 in 2016 to 29,438 in 2026, an increase of 43%! In Georgetown – the county seat – Latinos comprise 50% of the population. The number of Latinos is also growing quickly in many other small towns in southern Delaware, including Milford, which has seen an 88% increase over the past 10 years.

Latino’s contribute to the economy!
Whether they are multi-generational Americans or new arrivals, Latinos never lose sight of the American Dream of educational, economic, and asset-building opportunities for themselves and their families. Latino culture and businesses have a big impact in Southern Delaware!
- Delaware Latinos pay an average of $753,000 in taxes annually to the state and federal governments.
- Latinos are more highly employed than other Americans. Approximately 65.6% of Sussex County Latinos age 16 and older are employed or self-employed, compared with 50.6% of non-Latinos.
Our next generation is right behind us with:
- 38% of the students at Indian River School District
- 30% of students at Seaford
- 28% of students at Woodbridge
- 27% of students at Sussex Tech
- 25% of students at Milford High
These aspiring Latino youth will go to college, get jobs, start businesses, make money, invest in their communities, and, most importantly, they will vote!
Latinos are here to stay, running businesses, getting an education, and celebrating culture!
